The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu and Kashmir has uncovered a large land scam involving illegal transfer of evacuee property on Srinagar’s Gupkar Road. Senior government officials and private beneficiaries are under investigation for manipulating prime land.
About 17 marlas of evacuee land were swapped with properties of lower value without the mandatory No Objection Certificate from the Defence Estates Office. Revenue Department officials and the Custodian Evacuee Property Department allegedly colluded to bypass legal procedures.
Investigators found that land records were falsified and revenue entries manipulated to benefit private parties. Tenancy columns and revenue extracts were tampered with, hiding true ownership details and breaching public trust. The scam is being treated as criminal misconduct, forgery, abuse of position, and conspiracy.
An FIR has been registered under the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the RPC. Investigations continue to trace illegal transactions and identify responsible individuals. Arrests and departmental actions are expected. Citizens are urged to report corruption via official ACB channels. Evacuee properties are lands left by locals who migrated to PoK before 1947 and are held in trust by the state custodian department.
