The first session of the new Bihar Assembly will start on December 1. The meeting will run for five days. The key issue in this session is the selection of the Bihar Assembly Speaker. Senior BJP MLA Prem Kumar is expected to take the post. Reports say he will file his nomination on the first day. This makes the Bihar Assembly Speaker appointment the main focus of the winter session.
Narendra Narayan Yadav took charge as the Pro-tem Speaker. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan gave him the oath at Raj Bhavan. He will swear in all 243 newly elected MLAs. Yadav is one of the most experienced members of the House. He has won the Alamnagar seat eight times since 1995.
The Parliamentary Affairs Department is preparing for the session. The Nitish Kumar government will hold its first cabinet meeting before final decisions. If only one name is proposed for Speaker, the result will be announced without voting. If more than one nomination is filed, an election will take place.
The government is also expected to present a supplementary budget during this session.
