Hyderabad: A large number of homes and businesses across Hyderabad lost internet access. This occurred after the electricity department removed dangling cables from power poles. These cables belonged to various internet service providers (ISPs).

As a result, the city experienced a widespread broadband disruption. Many people working from home, attending online classes, or making digital payments were suddenly affected. Consequently, frustrated users took to social media to express their anger. Many also questioned why there was no prior warning before the disconnection.

Meanwhile, officials from the electricity department defended their decision. They claimed the action was taken in the interest of public safety. “Loose cables hanging from poles can cause accidents. They can also damage power lines,” one official explained. Furthermore, he noted that ISPs had been repeatedly asked to fix their networks, but they failed to act.

On the other hand, ISPs criticized the clearance drive. A spokesperson from a leading provider argued that the move should have been planned in advance. “Removing cables suddenly disturbs essential services that people depend on every day,” the spokesperson said.

In addition, the incident has sparked a wider debate on city infrastructure management. Many citizens are now urging the government and ISPs to coordinate more effectively. They believe that while safety is important, it should not come at the cost of connectivity. Therefore, proper planning and communication are essential to avoid such disruptions in the future.
