In a massive Punjab Corruption Crackdown, the CBI exposed a shocking trail of wealth during raids on DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, a 2009-batch IPS officer, and his aide, Kirshanu Sharda. The agency found over ₹7.5 crore cash, 2.5 kg of gold, 26 luxury watches, liquor, and documents of 50 properties in Punjab and Chandigarh.
This Punjab Corruption Crackdown revealed that Bhullar allegedly demanded an ₹8 lakh bribe for “settling” an FIR. Sharda was caught red-handed accepting ₹5 lakh from the complainant. Recorded WhatsApp calls confirmed Bhullar’s voice demanding money. Both men were arrested on October 16 and sent to judicial custody till October 31.
The CBI fears that releasing Bhullar could lead to witness tampering or evidence destruction. The investigation continues to uncover the full extent of corruption within the Punjab police ranks.
