The Delhi government has announced that 25 November will be observed as a public holiday across the national capital. The decision has been taken in view of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, and all departments under the Delhi administration have been directed to follow the order.

What Will Be Closed

On 25 November, all Delhi government offices, boards and corporations will remain shut.
Government schools will also stay closed, and several private schools are expected to follow the same schedule. Employees working in state-run institutions will get a full day off as part of the official holiday notification.

What Will Remain Open

Essential and emergency services such as hospitals, fire services, and law-enforcement units will continue to function normally.
Public transport, including the Delhi Metro, DTC buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis, will operate on their regular schedules so that daily commuters do not face inconvenience.

Banks and central government offices will not be affected unless they issue a separate advisory.

Background

The holiday has been declared to commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, who is remembered for his sacrifice in protecting religious freedom. Various cultural and devotional programmes are planned across the city, especially around Gurudwaras and historical sites, as part of the observance.

The Delhi government has urged citizens to participate in the commemorative events while ensuring smooth functioning of essential services.
