The Election Commission (EC) has announced that enforcement agencies seized illegal cash, liquor, drugs, and freebies worth over ₹100 crore from Bihar and other states heading for assembly by-elections.
As of November 3, the total value of seized items stood at ₹108.19 crore. This includes ₹9.62 crore in cash, liquor worth ₹42.14 crore (about 9.6 lakh litres), drugs valued at ₹24.61 crore, precious metals worth ₹5.8 crore, and other freebies worth over ₹26 crore.
Bihar will vote in two phases on November 6 and 11. Assembly bypolls for eight constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana, and Rajasthan are also scheduled for November 11. Vote counting for all elections will take place on November 14.
To ensure fair polling, 824 flying squads have been deployed across Bihar. These teams are tasked with resolving complaints reported on the C-VIGIL app within 100 minutes.
The EC has urged enforcement agencies to stay alert and intensify monitoring to curb the flow of cash, liquor, and drugs that could influence voters during the polls.
