A new eye helpline has been launched to make eye care more accessible across India. Leading ophthalmologists in Delhi started this initiative under the Sight Sarthi India Foundation, a not-for-profit organization.
The helpline offers free telephone and video consultations for anyone struggling with eye problems. Dr. Ikeda Lal, a cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon and medical director at Delhi Eye Centre, is heading the project. He said this service will be a lifeline for millions, especially for those living in remote towns and villages who often find it difficult to access proper eye care.
The initiative aims to remove barriers of geography, cost, and access. Many patients delay or avoid treatment for cataract, refractive errors, or even preventable blindness because of travel costs and lack of specialists nearby.
Through the helpline, patients can connect with Delhi’s top eye doctors for free. They can also get second opinions and clarify their diagnosis or treatment plans. With this service, people in rural and remote areas can access affordable, high-quality eye care without leaving their homes.
This helpline is expected to change lives by ensuring timely treatment and reducing preventable vision loss.
