HIV explosion in Sitamarhi has become a major worry for health officials. Reports say the number of HIV-positive patients is growing fast. According to media sources, the district now has nearly 7,400 HIV-positive people. This HIV explosion in Sitamarhi continues as 40–60 new cases appear every month.
Health teams are shocked because the number also includes more than 400 children. Doctors say many families work as migrants in big cities like Delhi and Mumbai, which increases the risk of infection.
Around 5,000 patients receive medicines every month from the Sitamarhi ART Centre. Others travel outside Bihar for treatment. Dr. Haseen Akhtar said that positive patients must follow strict precautions.
Officials believe many children got infected from their parents. The administration now plans to increase awareness programs and expand HIV testing in villages.
A debate has also started about the exact number of AIDS patients. Some posts claim Sitamarhi has 6,707 AIDS patients, including 428 children. State data shows that from 2012 to 2025, Bihar recorded 97,000 AIDS cases. The Sitamarhi share is part of this 13-year count.
