After the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, political tensions have soared. Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief and Grand Alliance’s deputy chief ministerial candidate Mukesh Sahni lashed out at Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha after an attack on his convoy. Sahni remarked that Sinha is “now facing the consequences of the very Bihar he himself created.”
Sahni also held the NDA government accountable, saying it controls both the state and the Centre, so the responsibility for the investigation rests with them. He claimed that the public mood signals a clear wave of change. “The people are showing support for the Grand Alliance and are ready to remove the NDA from power,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bihar witnessed a record-breaking 64.66 percent voter turnout in the first phase — the highest in its history. Around 37.5 million voters cast ballots across 121 constituencies in 18 districts. Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Gunjyal said over 200,000 elderly voters above 85 participated.
A total of 47,263 ballot units, 45,341 control units, and 45,341 VVPAT machines were used. Only 1.21 percent required replacement — lower than the 1.87 percent recorded in the 2020 elections.
