Netanyahu and Putin Review Gaza Ceasefire and UN Proposals

Putin

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a detailed phone call to review the shifting Middle East situation. The conversation took place on Saturday evening at Putin’s request. It followed several earlier discussions between the two leaders on regional concerns.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed the call but shared no extra details. The Kremlin, however, outlined key topics. Both leaders examined the latest developments in Gaza after the ceasefire. They also discussed Iran’s nuclear program and efforts to stabilize Syria.

The call came as Russia and the United States push rival UN resolutions on Gaza. Russia introduced its own draft resolution on Thursday. It challenges the US effort to secure support for President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

Reports say the US proposal seeks a 20,000-strong international stabilization force with broad independence from the UN. It also allows Israel to keep control of Gaza’s outer security perimeter for an undefined period. Trump has already ruled out sending US troops.

Russia’s draft calls for a UN-led stabilization force. It opposes any territorial or demographic changes in Gaza. It also stresses the need to pursue a two-state solution.
