The Nitish Kumar hijab controversy has sparked outrage after a video from an official Bihar government event went viral online. The clip shows Chief Minister Nitish Kumar interacting with a Muslim woman doctor on a public stage.
The Nitish Kumar hijab controversy took place during a ceremony to distribute appointment letters to AYUSH doctors. As the woman approached the Chief Minister, he reportedly asked, “What is this?” and then removed her hijab. The doctor looked visibly uncomfortable after the act.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary stood beside Nitish Kumar during the incident. He appeared to pull the woman’s sleeve in an effort to stop the situation. Health Minister Mangal Pandey was also present on the stage.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) shared the video on social media platform X. The party strongly criticised Nitish Kumar and questioned his behaviour. RJD leaders claimed the incident reflected poorly on the Chief Minister.
The event took place at the Samvad Secretariat in Patna. The government issued appointment letters to more than 1,000 AYUSH doctors. These included Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani practitioners.
Officials have not independently verified the video so far. However, the incident has already triggered a major political debate across Bihar.
