Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Sushila Karki, who took charge yesterday as Nepal’s interim Prime Minister. In a message on social media, Modi reaffirmed that India remains committed to the peace and prosperity of the people of Nepal, highlighting the strong bonds of friendship between the two nations.
Karki, who earlier served as Nepal’s first female Chief Justice, has been appointed interim PM following recent political unrest. The move came after widespread protests led by the Gen-Z youth movement , which erupted over corruption and restrictions on free speech. Responding to the turmoil, Nepal’s President dissolved Parliament and appointed Karki as caretaker Prime Minister based on opposition recommendations.
Her appointment is seen as a step toward stabilizing the nation and restoring public trust. India’s immediate acknowledgment and support reflect its continued engagement with Nepal during this critical political transition.
