Akal Takht officiating jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj said the Ghumman brothers, GPS Ghumman and GS Ghumman, face pressure while defending Sandeep Singh in court. Punjab Akal Takht Jathedar stressed that every accused, including Sandeep Singh, has the right to legal help from a lawyer of his choice.
Sandeep Singh is in Sangrur jail for the murder of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar in 2022. He also attacked three former policemen in Patiala jail this month, killing one and injuring two. The Punjab Akal Takht Jathedar claimed jail officials tortured Sandeep Singh and ignored court orders for a medical check-up.
He also condemned the attack on Sikh lawyer Simarjit Singh in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He demanded strict action against those behind the assault. The Punjab Akal Takht Jathedar said justice should be fair and free from political or government pressure.
