Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Wednesday compared semiconductors to the charkha, calling them symbols of India’s modern self-reliance. Speaking at India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, he said semiconductors represent the Swadeshi spirit that powered India’s freedom movement.

Scindia highlighted the Startup World Cup, where 500 companies are competing for funding. He also mentioned the DSS revolution — Designing in India, Solving for India, and Scaling from India — as a major step in the country’s technological growth.

The minister outlined India’s telecom progress, driven by the 4D system: Democracy, Demography, Digital-first approach, and Delivery. He said semiconductor production under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has reached Rs 91,000 crore. Bharat 6G Alliance is expected to contribute 10 per cent of global patents, he added.

Scindia emphasised India’s digital and telecom growth, with 5G now covering 99.9 per cent of districts and data prices among the lowest globally. He said India has 1.2 billion mobile subscribers and 944 million internet users. The country is leading global digital transformation through innovation, affordability, and inclusivity.
