Teghra Assembly’s Shifting Mood

Teghra Assembly Constituency political history

The political mood of Teghra Assembly Constituency has always been unpredictable, making it one of Bihar’s most interesting battlegrounds. From 1967 to 2010, when it was known as Barauni, the CPI continuously won. But after the 2010 delimitation, Teghra became a changing ground where every election brought new faces and parties.

Located in Begusarai district, Teghra Assembly (Seat No. 143) is often called Mini Moscow because of its communist roots. It was first formed in 1951 and went through name changes before being restored to Teghra in 2008. Today, both the NDA and the Grand Alliance are campaigning hard for the 2025 elections, while the outgoing MLA, Ramratan Singh (CPI), highlights development projects like roads, bridges, and flood control.

Despite many completed works, some promises like a flyover in Teghra and a bridge in Chilhari remain unfulfilled. Former MLA Virendra Kumar (RJD) is also seeking another chance, while the BJP is working to regain lost ground.

Teghra is not just about politics. It holds cultural and spiritual importance with Simaria Ghat, Barauni Fertilizer Factory, NTPC, and Barauni Dairy making it a key hub in Bihar.
