Telangana Govt Approves 85% PG Medical Quota for Locals

Telangana PG Medical Quota — CM Revanth Reddy approves 85% local reservation in PG medical seats for Telangana students.

The Telangana government has cleared an 85% local quota in Postgraduate (PG) Medical Management Quota (MQ–1) seats in private medical colleges. This move gives Telangana students more opportunities in PG medical and dental admissions.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy approved the decision after Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha highlighted the issue. For years, Telangana medicos have demanded more local representation in private PG seats.

The Health Department announced that 85% of MQ–1 seats will now be reserved for Telangana students, while 15% remain open for All India candidates. This change affects about 318 PG medical and 70 PG dental seats each year. Earlier, most of these seats were taken by non-local candidates.

Minister Rajanarasimha called it a “historic decision” that supports Telangana’s future doctors. The government will soon issue a GO to formalize the quota. Officials said the reform aims to strengthen local medical education and create more professional opportunities for Telangana students.
