US President Donald Trump has joked that he is “a much better looking person” than New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. His remark came during a CBS 60 Minutes interview when asked about comparisons calling Mamdani a “left-wing version” of Trump.
“I think I’m a much better looking person,” Trump said with a grin. He also criticized Mamdani’s politics, saying, “Communist, not a socialist. He’s far worse than a socialist.”
This is not Trump’s first swipe at the Democratic nominee. In July, he labelled Mamdani a “communist lunatic” and promised to “Make New York City Great Again.” Trump also warned he would not let Mamdani “destroy” the city.
Mamdani, who became a US citizen in 2018, could become New York’s first Muslim mayor if elected on November 4. He responded firmly to Trump’s threats, saying he would not be intimidated. “I will refuse to let ICE terrorise our city,” Mamdani said in a statement.
The upcoming mayoral race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent history. Mamdani leads after defeating Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, ahead of Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa.
