US Citizen Murdered in Punjab: Financial Motive Behind Brutal Crime

Rupinder Kaur Pandher murder in Punjab, financial motive investigation

Rupinder Kaur Pandher, a 72-year-old US citizen, was murdered in Kila Raipur, Ludhiana, after traveling from Seattle to Punjab to marry 75-year-old UK-based NRI, Charanjit Singh Grewal. The police arrested Sukhjeet Singh Sonu, who confessed to the crime. He stated that he killed Rupinder on the night of July 12-13, following Grewal’s instructions.

Rupinder had traveled to India under the pretext of marriage and transferred large sums of money to accounts linked to the suspects. Investigators believe that financial gain motivated the brutal murder. After the crime, Sonu burned her body with diesel inside a storeroom and disposed of the remains in a drain. Authorities later found partial skeletal remains, which they are using for identification.

Rupinder’s sister, Kamal Kaur Khairah, reported her missing and alerted the US Embassy, which led to the investigation. Charanjit Singh Grewal, the UK-based NRI, has emerged as the prime suspect. Police are gathering further evidence to arrest him. They continue to search for more remains as the investigation moves forward.
